4K VISITS/OTHER
Some of the visits recorded by TCG. Examples of how TCG films stationary steam engines and historic sites
BANCROFT MILL ENGINE HOUSE
This video was shot on April 3 2022 at the Bancroft Mill Engine House in Barnoldswick, Lancashire. The video was shot with a 4K camera and tripod. The 2 steam engines in the video are the Cross Compound Engine called The Roberts Engine and the tandem compound engine called The Bradley Engine. In this video it documents the sites 100th anniversary (delayed from 2020) and I start both engines in this video.
RYHOPE ENGINES MUSEUM
This video was shot on April 15 2022 and features the Ryhope Pumping Station (engines museum) in Sunderland. This pumping station has 2 beam engines made by Hawthorns in 1868 and in this video I start up the South Engine.
GAYLE MILL
This video was shot on August 4 2022. Gayle Mill, dating from about 1784, is thought to be the oldest structurally unaltered cotton mill in existence. It is located in the Wensleydale hamlet of Gayle, England, 1 mile (2 km) south of the market town of Hawes. It lies within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The mill is owned by Cultura Trust (formerly known as the North of England Civic Trust (NECT); it was operated by a local volunteer group which paid a modest rent to the owner until March 2018 when the property was closed to enable additional repairs to be undertaken to make it safe for visitors. At the time of recording it wasn't operational yet but they had reopened for tours.
CRAKEHALL WATER MILL
This was shot on May 7 2022. A mill was recorded here in Little Crakehall in the Domesday Survey of 1086AD. The current mill dates mainly from the 17th century and is an excellent example of a country corn mill. It was once owned by the famed Neville family of Middleham Castle but became Crown Property in the 15th century and was sold by James I in 1624.
